This week we have used our knowledge of recount writing to create our own based on our trip to the Grosvenor Museum in Chester. We had a number of key features which we had to use including, past tense, time connectives, writing in the first person, verbs and adjectives. We then peer assessed our partners work before using our ICT skills to create a Strip Design of our trip.
In Science we looked at a range of materials and used scientific vocabulary to describe them e.g. brittle, opaque, transparent and rigid. We used pages to create a table to show our results.
During our Welsh lesson we labelled a Roman and a Celtic warrior. First we looked a the language and then decided if it was clothes or armour and labelled them using a key.
This week in year 3 and 4 we have been very busy learning about the Romans and beginning our Maths No Problem lessons.
For our Literacy lessons we have been reading information about the Romans including Gladiators and the Amphitheatre and answering questions based on what we have read. It was fun assessing our partners work giving them two stars and a wish.
Although they were quite gross we enjoyed looking at Roman menus and comparing them to a menu from today. Later on in the week we applied our Numeracy skills across the curriculum by writing some History facts based on information we had read from a timeline.
We started our Maths No Problem lessons this week where we have looked at counting and place value. The Deans block came in very useful!
We began the week by writing about our summer holidays and sharing our stories with the class before learning about Growth Mindset. We watched some videos before creating a poster to show how it works and ways to 'train the brain'.
The children enjoyed drawing some self portraits for our class displays and used the ipads to take a 'selfie' so they could see themselves.
We began our new Romans topic by sharing what we know, what we would like to know and how we will find out using the concept app to produce our work.
This morning we had a visit from year 1 and 2 pupils who came up to show us their poems. The poems were called 'friends' and we all about people in school. They included alliteration where all the words began with the same letter. After they presented theirs to the class they teamed up with a year 3 or 4 and wrote a new one with their friend. It was really nice to have the pupils in our class, many came to see their teacher and class mates for next year.
We arrived at Glan Llyn around 11 am, after unloading the coach we went straight to the meeting room where the site manager (Huw) told us which dorms and groups we are going to be in.
After that we had dinner which was either jacket potato and chicken nuggets or pasta. Next we split into two groups. Group 1 went Canoeing first and then Orienteering whilst Group 2 did the same but the opposite way around. When we were Canoeing we had to put on a boyancy aid and were taught how to use a paddle. Then we Canoed over to an island where we played some games including a 'dab' race and a sing song. During the Orienteering we got to explore the Glan Llyn grounds whilst looking for codes on marker points.
Next we had a snack before taking part in the afternoon activities which were Bowling and Bingo. Odin, Jayden Re and Miss Knowles managed to get a strike! The Bingo was hilarious, we learned German, Welsh and had a maths lesson all in one go. The team who got a full house won a mystery prize! Leon also really enjoyed being the bingo caller and couldn't stop laughing at Mr Longley ridiculously bad German accent!
At tea time we had the option of Burger or pasta with arctic roll for dessert. Next we went to the shop and bought some memorabilia from Glan Llyn. Then we put on our pyjamas and settled down to watch a DVD before going to bed.
We are looking forward to Climbing and High Ropes tomorrow including making the 'leap of faith' if we are brave enough!!!!
