This week we did a lot of work on Victorian Education.
First we read a passage from Nicholas Nickleby and answered questions related to the passage. Next we looked at how Charles Dickens uses dialogue to show conversations, we had a go at writing our own but using the narrative to break it down.
Then we looked at the difference between simple and complex sentences, we enjoyed creating our own. We also looked at the similarities and differences between Victorian education and our education. We were surprised to discover that they had to learn different subjects from the opposite gender.
Lastly we wrote another scene set in Dotheboys school capturing the language and style of the author.
Stuart from JL: This week has been fun and I really enjoyed it, especially the writing of our own scene set in Dotheboys school.
Shani from JR: It was really fun and I had a good time doing the work.
Jay from JB: This week has been really fun writing dialogues about Mr Squeers.
